Devoted And Disgruntled North-East 3

Live Theatre, The Empty Space

10AM - 6PM

An invitation from Natalie Querol (The Empty Space) and Gez Casey (Live Theatre):

Dear Friends

It’s been four years since Improbable last came to Newcastle for Devoted and Disgruntled NE2 and in that time there’s been an enormous amount of change; new companies have been formed and others have moved into the region, an international festival has been born and is flourishing, a fringe theatre scene has emerged, some buildings have closed, there have been changes of leadership, and changes to the way that theatre is funded. What hasn’t changed is that there remains a vibrant and diverse community, devoted to theatre, to making theatre, promoting theatre, managing theatre, funding theatre and watching theatre.

And with more change on the horizon Devoted and Disgruntled returns to Newcastle, an opportunity for us to meet, collect our thoughts, harness our energies, and face the future together.

We’d love for you to join us, and, if you haven’t been before, here’s what you need to know. Devoted and Disgruntled is a chance to have a real conversation about theatre, what we love about it, what frustrates us, how the industry could work better, and perhaps more importantly, how we can make real change happen and what action we are going to take. The event is run in Open Space, which means that we won’t be setting the agenda in advance, everyone will do that together at the beginning of the day. If there’s anything you want to talk about you’ll be able to and if you’d rather spend the day listening then that’s fine too. There will be no power point presentations but there will be tea and biscuits.

So if there are things you are passionate about or things you are pissed off about, projects or proposals you need support on, or if you just want to connect with your peers, all are possible because in Open Space you set the agenda. On past experience of D&D, the more diverse the group, the more creative and exciting the work has been. Anyone that is passionate about theatre and prepared to take responsibility for making it the best it can be is invited. If you feel like this event might not be for you then that is a sure sign we need your input! If you feel that the issues that affect you or your sector never get discussed so what’s the point of turning up? This is the event for you!

We are extra excited that this year Devoted and Disgruntled NE3 is happening just a few days after Devoted and Disgruntled 9 in London and there will be a number of people attending both events, carrying conversations from the national event back to the north east and connecting us with the theatre community across the UK.

We’re really looking forward to reconnecting with friends made at previous Devoted and Disgruntleds and to welcoming new friends to the conversation. We hope to see you there.

Best wishes

Gez Casey            Natalie Querol
