Announcement of new MA course in Applied Theatre: Arts, Action, Change The University of Warwick is offering a new taught postgraduate degree: MA APPLIED THEATRE: ARTS, ACTION, CHANGE. With an emphasis on professional practice and development, the course addresses contemporary practice in applied theatre and socially engaged performance in national and international contexts. The programme is aimed at recent graduates, emerging practitioners and more established practitioners who want the opportunity to reflect, refresh and enhance their skills. Alongside opportunities to research and create applied and socially engaged performance projects, the degree also supports students to gain the skills necessary to enhance their profile, particularly in relation to funding, managing projects and collaborating with a range of partners. Application open for Artistic Directors of the Future's Board Shadowing Programme: London Edition Deadline: 8th August 2019 Interviews: 12th or 13th August 2019 After the success of the Board Shadowing Programme: Yorkshire Edition, Artistic Directors of the Future is pleased to announce their ADF Board Shadowing Programme: London Edition, in partnership with three of the UK’s most exciting and reputable theatre companies: Complicité, English Touring Theatre and Punchdrunk. The ADF Board Shadowing Programme: London Edition presents a first-time opportunity for London-based aspiring trustees from ethnically diverse backgrounds to gain an insight into the boardrooms and operations of theatre companies in the UK. Over the duration of six months, up to eight selected ADF Members will have the opportunity to shadow the board meetings at three theatre companies, as well as gain the opportunity to engage with each organisation outside of the boardroom, including attending press nights, subcommittee meetings, open rehearsals and group tours within the organisation to meet staff members and stakeholders. The ADF Board Shadowing Programme is designed to broker the relationship between aspiring trustees from ethnically diverse backgrounds and existing boards of directors at leading theatre organisations to redress the balance of diversity at governance level. The opportunity: ADF BOARD SHADOWING PROGRAMME: LONDON EDITION is designed to give up to 8 members of ADF the opportunity to shadow the boards meetings at three of the UK’s most prominent theatre organisations for a period of 6 months. ADF BOARD SHADOWING PROGRAMME is designed so that ADF members will gain experience within three theatre organisations, as well as participate in an ADF Board Shadowing Training Programme, theatre trips and networking opportunities. The Exploded Body Physical Theatre Course explores the relationship between the body and the space where it exists, researching the dynamics of space and rhythm through a structural form. A special focus will be on devising process and methodologies to create your own work. CREATIVE LAB AND MOVEMENT CLASSES In this Course will ask students to actively participate in a creative lab, in which we’ll be working with materials, colours and structures. We will be investigating the relationship between structural, architectural language and body movement, to build experimental objects that can be put in motion, (portable structures, body masks and dynamic objects). The idea behind our work is to recognize the significance of “Plastic Space”. Rather than considering the space and objects as elements of decoration, we intend them as plastic and dynamic fundamentals, fully integrated with the actor’s body. As a result of this research we will work on a final devising project where you will be building a body mask and perform into the space. Our aim is to generate a creative discussion within your own practice. This will be the essential element for the creation of a new performance language and artistic autonomy. The Exploded Body Physical Theatre Course is divided in 3 Modules taking place during 3 weekends. 1st module, 18th - 19th of May: UNIVERSAL POETIC AWARENESS. 2nd module, 1st- 2nd June: CONSTRUCTION OF PORTABLE STRUCTURES 3rd module, 8th - 9th of June: DEVISING PROCESS & COLLABORATIVE PROJECT TIME, SPACE, PRICING You can attend and book each module independently, or take advantage of our discounted packages. When I was 40, I was naughty, Soon I shall be 50…..

When I was 40, I was naughty, Soon I shall be 50….. I called this session at D&D yesterday for a few reasons. Back in 2009, a few women who I looked up to called a session about harnessing the power of the beyond 50s, and in my early 40s as I was, my heart sank a bit.
Where we've been

Over the past decade, we've held over 100 D&D events all over the country (and beyond!).
Verbatim Theatre Ethics

This session was looking at ethics related to the use of other people's stories/testimonies in making theatre. We also ended up discussing verbatim techniques. There were two people (myself - Amy Golding and Ben) making verbatim shows with care leavers. One around politics and one around mental health and immigration. We discussed the importance of anonymity of the people sharing their stories with us due to safeguarding and potential repercussions amongst peers or with service providers.
