Journals

This was a brief meeting about a project I’m working on.

I am working on an anthology of people’s journals from art school.

CALL FOR SUBMISSION:

Did you ever go to art school? Drama school? Dance school?

Have you ever had movement or voice training? Did you ever have to journal you ‘process?’

If you have then I’m hoping you kept them!

I’m collecting material for an anthology of silly, ridiculous, inspiring, poignant and amusing art school journals.

This anthology hopes to capture the trials and tribulations of the artistic process as well as provide insights into momentous events like; “today, I felt the weight of my head.”

How can you get involved?

  • Go through your old notebooks and find a few journal entries that make you cringe/ laugh/ smile or gasp.
  • Type up your old notes (verbatim). Then write a short (500 word ish) note about this experience: what were your thoughts about your journal? How do you feel now about that experience? Etc.
  • E-mail your entry to me at [email protected] subject line: ART SCHOOL JOURNAL.
  • Please include your contact info (name, e-mail, phone, and address) as well as a short, 200 word, bio about yourself.
  • If your entry is included you will receive a copy of the book as well as an honorarium.

Many thanks!

Thoughts from session:

-Why to schools feel the need to qualify our creative training with a journal?

-What forms can a journal take?

- Are you brave enough to share your dark/ embarrassing moments with others (remember you can use a pseudonym)?

-Why don’t men seem to want to talk about this?
