Is it "quality" or is it "taste"?

I initiated this question because I was recently at a meeting where someone quite clearly equated their own personal taste with a judgement on the quality of a company. The consequence of this kind of attitude is that too many companies get put down or held back by “gatekeepers” who really should have a bit less arrogance.

There are many other issues around quality and how we discuss it - the first of which is that we don't have a critical language to articulate our concerns about quality - this issue was examplifed by the fact that no-one wanted to talk about it!
