Future Forward Theatre Collective - What could/should it be?

The aim of Future Forward is to create a theatre event that uses open space to envision 2050 and how we made it liveable. We are pitching this project to Improbable as a DnD Satellite Event. Read on for further details on other ideas we explored in our session.
How can theatres better hold and support marginalised communities?

A discussion about how theatres ( the buildings and larger companies) are interacting, holding, supporting and programming marginalised ( BAME, LGBTQ+, disabled) voices. This conversation fell into two strands. 1) How performance work can be supported 2) How buildings can be better
How can we use comedy & improv with BAME/POC to respond to oppressive sh!t?

We began the session with a small with answering why we each decided to attend the session, followed by a discussion on how people in the UK respond to Oppression, then a lively discussion on the differences between American and British comedy. We concluded that, yes the answer to this question is needed and could ideally take the form of one-off or a series of workshops in partnerships with theatres that have existing relationships to BAME communities and audiences. Next steps include outreach
Bridging the gap between core programming and education/participation work

How can we better develop the connection between main stage and education/participation work? Is there a stigma attached to participation work from an audiences perspective that means they don't attend performances with this at its heart? Do audiences fear it will be of lesser quality therefore not want to risk wasting their valuable money?
Why are students made to feel like the arts is a 'soft' subject or the 'easy' option?
Awesome Women Meet-Up - What does that look like?

Day 3 of D&D 2019 - A practical discussion about how we can organise physical meet-up for 'Awesome women in the Arts' and what format etc that meeting should take.

CAT: Day 1: Bridge the Gap

A range of views and experiences: how to sustain work within the current funding structures and views on future problems. And a proposal via Equity for a future new structure based on Provision and Distribution of arts, on providing work to a good level for those trained and aspiring to work in the the arts, and on properly paid work rather than on the restrictive "portfolio" and "excellence".

When I was 40, I was naughty, Soon I shall be 50…..

When I was 40, I was naughty, Soon I shall be 50….. I called this session at D&D yesterday for a few reasons. Back in 2009, a few women who I looked up to called a session about harnessing the power of the beyond 50s, and in my early 40s as I was, my heart sank a bit.
Where we've been

Over the past decade, we've held over 100 D&D events all over the country (and beyond!).
Verbatim Theatre Ethics

This session was looking at ethics related to the use of other people's stories/testimonies in making theatre. We also ended up discussing verbatim techniques. There were two people (myself - Amy Golding and Ben) making verbatim shows with care leavers. One around politics and one around mental health and immigration. We discussed the importance of anonymity of the people sharing their stories with us due to safeguarding and potential repercussions amongst peers or with service providers.
