Report by Ruth Mariner, 7 June 2015

Key outcome of the meeting was to set up a network for librettists to meet one another and share skills, for composers and others interested in making opera to find collaborators, and those interested to ask advice from others on how to get a foot in the door.

Whilst emerging directors in London can make contact with one another via the Young Vic Directors Network, and there are also strong communities for playwrights there is no equivalent organisation for young opera makers.

To start, we have made a facebook group:

Librettist Network

Please join and spread the word to other people.

Future ideas and plans include:

Composer/librettist meeting evenings.

Start conversations with larger organisations about the possibility of giving talks and training events from established writers and opera makers (Guildhall??? ROH??)

A website documenting advice from librettists directors and composers on how to get started, what you need to know as a first time writer, a glossary of terms etc.
