Am I the only Darkie here?

Mehrdad Seyf, 29 September 2012

Yes.

Although, in the conversation about the Avant guarde, it was mentioned that collaboration between artists from different cultures could lead to original and interesting work both in terms of content and form. This kind of collaboration should not be based on a cultural basis but because artists are attracted to each other's work. However, the major difference is that artists from countries in the Arab world or in the middle east for example, are highly attuned to western culture as well as engaging with their own. The opposite is less true so the initiative tends to come from artists from a diverse background in collaborations with artists from a European one. The reverse needs to happen, an opening up to that part of the world from an artistic point of view, not in terns of importing art from other countries, but more in terms of looking for collaborations between artists.
